Health Benefits of Growing Over Buying
Vegetables taste so much better when you grow them yourself!
It feels awesome to know your veggies are organic, which means they are free of nasty chemicals like pesticides!
Growing in a Greenhouse vs. an Outdoor Garden
What can be frustrating about growing your own vegetables in an outside garden is how drastically the climate changes in most areas, especially when the seasons change. Late Spring and early Fall are ideal for outdoor gardening in most regions of the United States, but Summer is too hot and early Spring or late Fall is too cold. On top of that, it can be extremely challenging to keep bugs from taking over an outside garden, especially if you’re determined to avoid the use of chemicals like pesticides (which have some serious side affects).
So What’s The Solution?
Simple, get a greenhouse!
Greenhouses have their PROs and CONs, but all-in-all they are spectacular to own. When you have your own, you can control everything from temperature, water, light, and humidity. Controlling your own settings gives you the best shot at growing your own vegetable garden and making it everything you want it to be.
When growing vegetables in a greenhouse, you may want to note that vegetables are separated into two categories: cool-season and warm-season. Cool-season vegetables include broccoli, carrots and lettuce. The cool-season veggies grow best at 55 to 70 degrees during the day and drop the temperature to 50 degrees at night. The warm-season veggies include peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers. You want to grow these vegetables at 65 to 85 degrees during the day and then drop the temperature down to 60 degrees at night.
When you are running your own greenhouse, you need to either have it be a warm season greenhouse or a cool season greenhouse, depending on which veggies you want to grow. That said, you can always change this after a grow cycle is complete and there are also ways to segregate your greenhouse to have a warm veggies section and a cool veggies section.
So What’s The Best Way to Get a Greenhouse?
Most local plant nurseries and big box stores (like Home Depot or Lowes) will have a limited section of greenhouses to choose from. However, you will get the best selection and best prices shopping for greenhouses online. We recommend finding a greenhouse kit that you love, and then chopping around to find the best price online for that particular kit.
Growing your own vegetables in your own greenhouse is awesome and gives you a chance to provide for yourself and family.
